You have probably wondered: “What type of photoshoots are there?”. If you have, then you are at the right place because in this article we will discuss the topic of different photoshoots.
As we have discussed the types of models that work in the fashion industry (Part 1, 2 and 3) and why it is important to determine what kind of model you are, we will now talk about the types of work each model performs. This will help you to understand the work order in the fashion industry and assess whether you would like to put the theory discussed in our articles to practise..
The first type of photoshoots are commercial campaigns. They aim at advertising a particular product, service or brand. Their purpose is to affect the audience emotionally, to inspire or to transmit a certain message. As a result, more sales are made.
Commercial campaigns can be seen on billboards, in magazines or on the Internet in general. Clients who may be looking for models are fast fashion brands such as Zara and H&M or high fashion brands like Chanel, Dior, Versace, etc. Commercial campaigns are widespread in different fields (apart from fashion). For example, they are used in the automotive, jewellery, cosmetics, food industry and others.
Working in commercial campaigns can help jump-start a model’s career or strengthen their established image. For the most part commercial photoshoots are well paid. This means that the engagements bring prestige and finances to the model. However, prestige brings more value in the long run because it brings more work and recognition.
Type of models suitable for test photoshoots: Commercial model, Parts model, Print model. In the last couple of years Child Models, Mature Models and Plus-size models work more in the field of commercial campaigns.
*In some cases Swimsuit and Lingerie models can also book for commercial campaigns in line with the product advertised. Take into consideration that Runway models are a universal type of models and according to their specific features they can work in all types of photoshoots.
In the next episode we will discuss editorial photoshoots. If you want to know more about the different types of models check our articles on the topic - Part 1, Part 2, Part 3.
