The most famous supermodels in the world, we all know, have caught the attention of the public and fans with their walk. It is safe to say that the walk is one of the strongest features of a model, and the fashion industry recognizes this. Everyone has watched Fashion TV at least once and seen the fashion shows with models presenting the latest collections, and wondered how the models do it. We will reveal this today.
First, you need to take care of your posture. The human skeleton stands upright because of the muscles. This means that you need to have well-developed muscles for proper posture. If you have any misalignments, they will be noticeable. However, they can be compensated for with exercises such as yoga and pilates. We recommend that you do not rely solely on weight training, as it will immobilise your bones and create too much volume, which is not suitable for a model's physique. It is true that there are exceptions to this rule (e.g. fitness models).
To practice your walk, do exercises to build strong abdominal muscles. Try to keep your shoulders relaxed, but not tense or stiff. Your arms should be a natural extension of your shoulders and should not move unnecessarily back and forth.
Keep your head upright, but do not lift your chin too high. Keep it parallel to the floor. Imagine an invisible thread pulling the crown of your head up toward the ceiling so that you remember to walk upright.
Practice walking in a straight line, placing your feet one in front of the other. Step from heel to toe and slide your feet forward in one continuous motion. Do not break your stride. Your pelvis should be slightly forward in a neutral position (one hip should not be in front of the other). This happens naturally if you tighten your abdominal and lower back muscles. You can practice with a stick, as shown in the photo. This will help you move your pelvis naturally.
Another trick we can provide is to practice walking in different types of shoes. This is especially important for women, as heels can come in various shapes and sizes. When going for a walk with friends, you can wear high heels and practice wearing them in a natural environment.
Once you have practiced these techniques and gained confidence, it's time to improve your speed and timing with the music. Your facial expression is just as important. We suggest practicing at least two types of facial expressions. For example, one with a smile and a cheerful appearance, and another where you look more serious or even emotionless.
