Often casting applicants ask why they are not selected after the casting. This is normal and you can learn a lot from the situation.
There are various reasons why you may not be chosen for a role after auditioning, and in most cases they are not personal. Decisions about role assignments are more complicated than you might think and involve many factors that are not up to you, such as appearance, the director's or customer’s vision, and your chemistry with the other actors. Other reasons may be that you don't meet the specific requirements for the role, such as height, weight or hair colour, or you simply aren't a fit for the overall look of the project. For example, if they are looking for professional athletes for a commercial, and you train occasionally, but you still attend a casting, you know that professional athletes will have an advantage over you. However, this should not discourage you.
On the other hand, sometimes there is a lot of competition and a lot of people from all over the world audition for a role. It's important to be aware of all the factors that are at play in how producers and brands choose actors, so that you don't take rejection personally. You can ask the casting agency what the likely reasons are for not being selected and what you can improve on in the future.
Often rejection can teach us a great deal more than when we are selected for a role.
