In this episode we will outline the purpose of editorial photoshoots. First, let us delve into the word ‘editorial’, which relates to the editor of a newspaper, magazine or TV programme, who has the power to decide what is published in it (Caimbridge dictionary).

In the world of fashion, editorial photoshoots can be seen in magazines (online or printed) where the articles are accompanied by images. They visually depict what the text is about. For example, if an article talks about the latest summer trends, there will certainly be editorial images of models dressed in summer clothes next to it. Editorial images enhance the effect of the text and leave a particular impression on readers, transmit emotions, style and character.

This means that a model will benefit from taking part in an editorial photoshoot as this will help fill their portfolio. These kinds of photos usually present the model in different styles and provide valuable experience in posing and conveying certain emotions and facial expressions that are specific to the haute couture field. The downside is that editorial photoshoots are often unpaid or low paid. However, an aspiring model will greatly benefit from the experience and will build their portfolio faster.
