Today we will lift the curtain on one of the most successful fashion brands and its creator - Kremena Gineva. She talks to us about the new collection “Youth and splendour”, inspired by the Great Basilica in Pliska (the first capital of Bulgaria). Our models Maria Apanasenko, Rosi Dimitrova and Zornitsa Gospodinova were transformed into demi-goddesses through the lens of George Kazakov. This was achieved with the help of the hairstylist Kina Kudeva and the make-up artist Kristina Slavova. We invite you to immerse yourself into a word of fashion where dreams become reality. 
Can you tell us a little bit about how you started your career in fashion?
What sparked the flame of your fashion dreams?
Ever since I was a child I was fascinated with the magic of elegant designs. I used to draw princesses in splendid dresses and create my own world where imagination was limitless. In time, this childhood dream became a reality. I started transforming ordinary clothes into exquisite works of art and later created my own designs. Today, I bring this magic into the world of fashion through the brand Julia Kontogruni and my aim is to make every woman feel like a real queen.
How did you establish the brand Julia Kontogruni?
It all started with my own experience in the field of fashion. When I was younger I tried to rework and customise my own clothes, and then the clothes of my friends. Even at that time, I knew I wanted to create beautiful clothes for people’s special occasions. I decided to create beautiful dresses that would turn every woman's look into art. After establishing my personal key characteristics — style, quality, individuality, I created Julia Kontogruni in 2002.
Each of my creations is the result of the craftsmanship of talented artisans, who turn fine fabrics and delicate laces into exquisite works of art with love and attention. Each dress of Julia Kontogruni is a masterpiece, from the handmade beading to the intricate embroidery. We create our dresses with the women who wear them in mind.
What does the name of the brand mean?
Julia Kontogruni is the name of my mother. It is a name that carries the sound of a beautiful melody and deep respect for my mom. The name is more than just a reference to a loved one; it is a symbol of continuity and the eternal connection between generations. Julia Kontogruni is a bridge between past and present, between tradition and innovation.
Your last collection was photographed in the first Bulgarian capital - Pliska. Why did you choose this place?
As the first Bulgarian capital, Pliska carries a unique heritage and mystical charm that is deeply inspiring. It combines modern style and ancient elegance, which is key to the brand. We are proud to present our new prom dress collection, inspired by the grandeur and mystique of the Great Basilica in Pliska.
Can you tell us more about the Prom Collection "Youth and Splendor"? What emotions and memories did you want to capture with the dresses of the collection?
We used earthy tones and soft pastels inspired by Pliska. We included various details of gold and bronze accents symbolising the splendour of ancient Bulgarian culture. The collection employs a variety of styles, from classic long dresses to short designs with unique details and embroideries inspired by the architecture of the basilica.
How do you choose the models for Julia Kontogruni’s advertising campaigns?
Our brand maintains a close connection with modelling agencies dedicated to fashion and the pursuit of perfection, who understand the importance of every detail. We partner with talented photographers and production teams, who specialise in creating captivating images. We look for models who radiate elegance and unique style to represent Julia Kontogruni and emphasise the individuality of the brand.
What qualities should the models possess in order to represent Julia Kontogruni?
We are definitely looking for elegance and unique style. These are usually features of the international look, which we found in the models Maria Apanasenko and Rosi Dimitrova. They have worked in Bulgaria and abroad in one of the fashion capitals - Milan. We chose Zornitsa Borisova because of her great potential and talent.
Do you work with foreign modelling agencies?
Yes, as we work on foreign fashion markets such as China and the USA.
